Nina was born on 8th October 1903 (Newmarket Q4-1903 3B:448) daughter of George Herbert and Annie Harriet PECK (née CASTLE). Despite the General Register Office and the 1939 register having her born in 1903, her date of birth on the headstone is 1904 1911 census...Aged 7, she was at High Street, Newmarket with her father George Herbert PECK [42] master plumber and decorator born Newmarket; her mother Annie Harriett [36] born Epsom; sister Leonie [10] born Newmarket. In the 1939 register, a VAD member, she was at Phoenix House, High Street, Newmarket with her father George Herbert PECK [17-3-1868] master plumber and painter/A.R.,P. warden and her mother Annie Harriet [1-4-1875]. Nina PECK, B.R.C.S. (British Red Cross Society), member Voluntary Aid Detachment. She lived at Phoenix House, High Street, Newmarket with her parents. One record said "dead body found Newmarket High Street". Phoenix House only sustained superficial damage when the neighouring properties were bombed. It looks as if Nina was visiting the neighbouring businesses when the bombs fell. BUT, now it has been possible to read the inscription on her headstone, it says she died on 21st February. Just to add to the confusion, her actual death certificate clearly says her dead body was found on the 18th February 1941.
